During the last year we chronicled the drowning or

to $80,OU). Tbe lusurance Agents sent on sucli

was some hesitation about the payment of the mo

boat.accident, had made his will, and tbe legatee ex

with the Insurance Companies, but although we

the claim, they still delayed about the payment of the
$81,000. A few daj s ago an Agent of one of tbe

Fully aware that many of onr readers are not in
formed as to the internal improvements which have
been and are being made in onr Forest City, and to
show that there is life in tbe laud yet,'yesterday
forenoon, the writer of this went on a tour of ob
servation in that portion of the town lying east of
BnU street.
Between Drayton and Abarcorn streets, on the
north side, is a neat two-story double-tenement brick
residence with basement, built by Mr. Raid, of tha
firm of Keid St Stewart.
Southward iu Liberty street, iu the course of erec
tion, by Capt. Christopher 0. Casey, and intended
for bis residence, la a very neat two-atory brick house
with basement. This building wHl have all the latest
improvements. Capt. Casey is superintending the
wotk in persor. and will have, when completed, one
of the most desiraole private residences in the
city ; it wHl cost $7,000.
On the north side of Liberty street, between Aber-
corn and Lincoln streets, Mr. J. E. Heruandr-z, and
Mr. Barie have each erected substantial two-story
b ick buildings with basement and out buildings, a
very creditable improvement to the neighborhood.
Mr. Barie, we are informed, has 6old his building.
Oho 'oor east of the southeast corner of Abercorn
and Jones streets, Mr. Francis Rnckert, father of Mr.
F. J. Buckert, has bnilt a neat three tenement two
story brick building.
Further southward, through Abercorn street, at the
i.orth-eaet corner of Gaston aud Abercorn streets, we
found in the course of erection by OoL Aaron Wilbur
and Mr. W. R. Boyd, two magnificent brick dwel
lings.
Passing eastward to the lower and of tbe lot and
near the corner of Habersham street, Mr. D McDon
ald, Treasurer of tbe Atlantic and Gulf &ailr»ad, is
building a doable-tenement two- story brick dwelling
with basement. We axtminsd this improvement,
which, when finished, promises to be one of comfort,
dnrabUity and ornament Mr. McD. drew the plans
himself, as wa learn. Etch dwelling will contain
twelve rooms, and tho whole will bs famished
with ail tha late improvements. Messrs. Grady fr
Tally aie the plasterers ; Mr, Wblliner, carpenter ;
Mr. John Hamlet, mason ; Messrs. Nicholson fr Me-
Ateer, plumbers snd ga* fitters. The building will
oost, when completed, about $12,000.
At the south east corner of Uoeolu and Gordon
streets, Mr. John Schwarz has bad built a four-tene
ment two-story brick building. These tenements
are worthy of mention, as they are furnished with all
necessary improvement*, and coat $8,000
On Jones atrt-et Lane, between Lincoln and Hab
ersham streets, Mr. Jama# H. Johnston has had
erected six two-story brick tenement buildings. The
additions, when the front of tha lot on Jonea street
s improved upon, can be converted into out-build-
ings, although at tbe present time every tenement la
occupied by respectable people, and the convenience
to the Gnlf Railroad is a great advantage, as several
of the employee* are living in these bsftsra
Mr. Geo H. A*b, at the sontheaat corner of Aber-
oorn s.reet and Jones street lane, has built a three
tenement two-story briolt building,
very uubstantial.
At the northwest comer of Jonas and Price streets
Mr John Asendorf has bad erected a double tone-
mens two-story brick bnlldiog. Tlda bnildlng is very
neat in exterior appearapoe. Upon interior examina-
don are found all the comforts for families Mr. Aee«-

farther improvements.

AT Home, Near Marietta, Ga., OoL 16,1867.
A. J. Roberts ± Co., Atlanta, Ga.:
Gentlemen—I am well ptoaaed with tb« result of the
nse ot tbe “Double Refined Poudrette’U n my crops.
1 tried it on both oorn and cotton, and am satisfied
wherever it was applied the yield was more than
double what it would have been without it. I regret
exceedingly my not tuning it more exieneively the
present year, bat will try to make op my loss by pur
chasing a larger quantity next spring. I regard it as
the cheapest, most reliable, end easiest managed fer
tilizer within my knowledge, end cheerfully recom
mend it (a* 1 have tried it thoroughly) to the farmers
of this section, and particularly to those planting cot
ton. from the faot of ite causing it tocaatarffrom ten
days to two weeks earlier than if .would .Rffbout the
use of the Poudrette. I also used it on my garden,
and found it of much bene ft to all kinds of plants.
Very respectfully, frc.,
G. 8. OGLESBY.'
Extract from a letter received from Professor Martin.
of Hampden, Sidney College, Virginia, dated July
1st, 1867.
The Double Refined Pondrette is operating like a
charm on toy crop, aud attracting universal attention
from all beholders. I am already satisfied that it ia
the cheapest and Barest renovator of our worn-out
lands.
High Shoals, Ga.. Oct. 4, 1867.
James R. Dey, Esq.:
Sir—Tue Double Refined Pondrette I bought for
two other parties in connection with myself—One of
them used it on cotton and corn, and thinka It an
swered finely; tbe other put it on cotton, on very
poor ground, and thinks it doabled his crop. I used
it on corn. It answered finely, and was thought by
the hand thrt cultivated the crop to be folly equal to
Rhodes’ Super Phosphate. 1 also used It on about an
aero of cotton, and 1 am clearly of opinion that it is
the best and cheapest fertilizer in uoo, and I expect
to order several tons this winter, i
Yours, very respuctfuDy. i i
ISAAC POWELL.
Ellavtlle. Schley County, Ga., Oct. 4,1867.
The Double Refined Poudrette purchased of you
last spring, I think, im reused my crop of ootton 150
pounds per acre; put upon worn out pine land, at
the rate of 200 pounds per acre, drilled in with cotton
* Yours, frc., 8. MONTGOMERY.
Salisbury, m. 0., Aug. 10, 1867.
James R. Dry, Esq.:
Dear Sir—I can safely say that yonr Doable Refined
Pondrette is far superior to any other other fertilizer
for cotton; for I have given it a lair trial this season.
Yours, JEHU FOSTER, Jr.
Savannah, Ga., HepL 25,1867.
James R. Dey, Eaq., presetU.:
Dear Hir—I used the Double Refined Poudrette
bought of you last spring, on corn. I think it lncre ta-
ed the yield cue-half. I consider it an excellent
manure.
Respectfully, T. HOLCOMBE.
Ridgeway, 8. 0„ Sept 21,1867.
Mr. James R. Dey:
Sir—I applied the Double Re&ued Poudrette by it
£dlf, and iu combination with other fertilizers, oo cot
ton, and am pleased with it; so much so that it ia my
pi erfeHt intention to purchase a larger supply of you
the next year to apply to my cotton crop.
Yours, very respectably,
HKNRY 0. DAVIS.
Rocky Mount, Edgecombe, Co., N. O., Nov. 13, i860.
James R. Dey, Esq.:
Sir—In reply to yonr inquiry of the result* of our
exp-netico in the ubg of your improved Poudrette,
purchased of you for this year’s cotton crop, we would
net; leave to say that tho present season ha* been one
quite unfavorable to the action of all fertilizers.
St-v -ral kinds of manures were used by ns, with the
exception of yonr Poudrette, with little or no effect to
the crop.
