The people of FJorida,_ west of

present arrangements by which their

now receiving the attention of the
postoffice authorities at Washington,

It if not generally known, perhaps,
that the city council, in revising the
city tax bocks, added only abc ut $S5,-
000 to the values placed by cwutre.
Ia other words, the property-holders of
the town voluntarily gave in something
more than two million dollars worth cf
property. The “raise” oa this large
sum was comparatively little. It is
gratifying to see and know that (he
property-holders of Thomasvillc give
in their property at a fair valuation.
This is honest, patriotic; and they are to
be be commended for it.
In this connection it will be iaurat-
ing, also, to state that the colored peo
ple of the town gave in ever one hun
dred thousand dollars worth of {rop-
erty. And they gave ia at fair valua
tions, very few changes being found
necessary in the revision. The colored
people, many of them, are learning
that to become independent, to become
good and useful citizms, they must
own homes of their own.
