To be sure the amendment • providing lor a final adjournment on Saturday was offered by a democrat, and a majority of the republicans voted against it, while a majority of • „ the democrats voted for it, but th recess resolution which Mr. Allison brought forward on behalf of the republicans and which as amended was adopted, was tantamount to a proposition lor final adjournment. It would have left oniy twelve work ing days between Saturday and the .first Monday in December, wheh congress will assemble for the second session.
